Hagley to host screening of Hedy Lamarr film

Hagley Museum and Library
The Hagley Museum and Library hosts a Thursday night screening of the film “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story.”";s:

Hedy Lamarr may best be known for her starring roles in Hollywood films of the 1930s and 40s, but her legacy reaches far beyond the film industry.

Hagley Museum and Library explores Lamarr's fascinating life Thursday during a free screening of the film “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story.”

Outside of acting, Hedy Lamarr was an ingenious inventor whose pioneering work helped revolutionize modern communication.

“But as people have come to know in recent years, she was also a brilliant inventor. And in fact, she came up with a pioneering technology for remote controlling torpedoes during World War II that the government in fact used and which, now underlies all sort of communications technologies - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cell phones,” said Kyle VanHemert, a UD Hagley Scholar who organized a screening of “Bombshell: The HedyLamarr Story.”

The screening will be held in the Hagley Soda House.

A discussion with the film's director, Emmy award-winning journalist and producer Alexandra Dean, will follow the screening.

The event is free and open to the public. More information on it can be found at Hagley's website.
