Health officials urge vaccination after 3rd reported flu death

Delaware Public Media

The Division of Public Health is reminding Delawareans it’s not too late to get a flu shot. DPH announced the first Sussex County flu-related death of the season and third overall.

In a release, officials reported the death of a 74-year-old Sussex County woman who was diagnosed with the flu, as well as other underlying health conditions.

DPH said this flu season is hitting children, teens and young adults particularly hard.

The last week of January saw a surge of new flu cases in Delaware, with over a third of the 142 confirmed cases occurring in people between the ages of 5 and 24.

Just nine flu cases in young people were confirmed in the same span last year.

DPH recommends anyone who’s not yet vaccinated to do so. A list of clinics can be found here.
