History Matters digs into the Delaware Historical Society’s archives each month to explore connections between key people, places, and events in history and present-day news.
The Delaware Historical Society's recently released book, Read House and Gardens: One Site, Many Stories, attempts to bring to life the history of the George Read House and Gardens in Old New Castle. Through photographs and historical documents, Read House and Gardens tells the stories of the three families who lived in the home since it was built in the early 1800s, as well as the many Delawareans who worked at the house over the years. In this month's "History Matters", DFM News visits the Read House and Gardens for a firsthand look at this piece of Delaware history and a sample of the stories it contains.
