Jury finds DuPont responsible for man's testicular cancer

DuPont was dealt another blow in an Ohio courtroom Wednesday after a jury found the company liable for a man’s testicular cancer.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the jury awarded Marietta College professor David Freeman $5.1 million in damages.

Jurors found DuPont maliciously dumped tainted water into the Ohio River from its Parkersburg, West Virginia plant that contained a chemical used to make Teflon.

Freeman could be awarded further money in damages.

A woman was awarded $1.6 million related to contamination issues in October, with another case settled out of court, according to Bloomberg News.

Bloomberg reports damages will be borne by Chemours, which DuPont spun off from its main company last year.

Several thousand pending lawsuits are still working their way through the federal court system in Ohio.
