Large jackpots fuel lottery ticket sales

Delaware Public Media

Lottery ticket sales are up in the First State and large jackpots could be fueling the trend.

Last week, the Delaware Lottery sold more than $1.5 million worth of tickets.

"As the jackpots grow the sales grow right along with them," Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk said.

Powerball and Mega Millions games combined for more than a $700 million jackpot.

Kirk said this year's lottery sales have increased to just outpace last year’s numbers.

Last week an anonymous Mega Millions ticket holder in Illinois claimed the $393 million prize. That drops this week’s jackpot to $15 million. The next drawing is Friday.

But no one hit the Powerball jackpot over the weekend. It’s now up to $430 million. That drawing is Wednesday night.
