Local manufacturing partnership to get federal grant

A manufacturing partnership at Delaware Tech is getting a boost from federal grant money.

The Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership announced this week it will receive $2.5 million in federal funding to support its work with medium and small manufacturers in the First State.

The non-profit partnership is based at DelTech’s Stanton Campus.

DE-MEP Executive Director Rustyn Stoops says the funding will allow it to continue helping businesses with troublespots like optimizing supply chains, breaking into global markets and quality certification.

"Over the last 15 years we’ve done projects with over 150 manufacturers," said Stoops.

Stoops adds grant could help DE-MEP expand its programs to even smaller businesses that may need help improving in those areas.

"We’ve got manufacturers of all shapes and sizes here in the state, but the smaller ones need a little more assistance," said Stoops.

The grant comes from the National Institute of Standards and Technologies and will be rolled out over the next five years.

Similar organizations in 10 other states were also given awards, which kick in April 1st.
