Memorial service set for fallen Wilmington firefighters

A joint memorial service will be held this weekend for two Wilmington firefighters who died battling a house fire in Canby Park early last Saturday.

The service honoring Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes and Lt. Christopher Leach will be held at 1 pm Saturday at the Chase Center on Wilmington’s Riverfront.
 

It will be open to the public, with doors opening at noon.  Fire Departments and other first responders will also be able to stage their vehicles at event to honor the two men.

Funeral arrangements for both firefighters are in place as well.

Two viewings will be held for Senior Firefighter Fickes atGrace Lutheran Church in Hockessin . The first is Thursday 5-8 pm and fire personnel are asked to pay their respects at that time. 

The second is 2-4 pm Friday with a private service to follow. This will be for family, friends and members of the Wilmington Fire Department only.

Services for Lt. Leach are Friday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Wilmington.  There will be a 10 am viewing for family, friends, Wilmington Fire Department members and local first responders. A funeral mass will follow at noon.
