New Castle Co. hires new second in command

New Castle County has a new chief administrative officer.

Longtime state justice official and former county attorney Timothy Mullaney Sr. will serve as the county government’s second-in-command and will oversee daily operations.

During seven years in the Department of Justice, Mullaney served as chief of staff for the late Attorney General Beau Biden. He also directed the Fraud and Consumer Protection Division and oversaw the Special Investigations Unit.

New Castle County executive Tom Gordon fired former Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi, last month saying his office was moving in a “different direction.”

The News Journal reported that Grimaldi claims he was ousted after questioning Gordon about his risk manager.  Grimaldi added he asked those questions after several employees filed "hostile workplace complaints."
