Rehoboth’s Tanger Outlets are often a “can’t miss” part of a tourist’s visit to the beach community, but on Black Friday, the outlets attracted a lot of locals too, staff said.

“It’s been a really brisk and busy Black Friday,” said Amy Schnerr, the outlets’ general manager.

A lot of the shoppers, she said, are families that come to the outlets every year as a tradition.

“And they would not miss it for the world, so it is usual that they’re coming from out of state, or even definitely out of the county - of Sussex County,” Schnerr said.

Schnerr says the outlets’ 130 stores opened at 6 p.m. on Thursday – and since then, they’ve seen a lot of out-of-state and up-state traffic.

Even people who live minutes away braved the crowds.

“It’s really important for us that our locals know how much we appreciate them, and that we know that both our locals and our tourists have a lot of options when it comes to shopping,” Schnerr said. “And we really appreciate when people come and do patronize their bricks and mortar outlet center in Rehoboth Beach.”

Schnerr says now until Christmas, the outlets will have extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays. They’ll close an hour later – at 10 p.m.
