Pre-holiday Firefly tickets on sale, 2017 fan-curated experience planned

Tickets are now on sale for next summer’s Firefly festival.

Firefly’s Director of Creative Programming Christiane Pheil says the release of the 2016 Firefly lineup last November was an anomaly.

“Which meant for the first time ever, our tickets were on sale for the holidays," Pheil said. "And we saw a lot of people loving that option.”

So while the 2017 lineup for the Dover music festival likely won’t be released until the end of January, organizers decided to offer ticket sales ahead of the holidays again this year.

Festival-goers can also now participate in several online surveys.

The surveys are part of what Firefly is calling the first-ever fan-curated festival – which Pheil says allows fans to help guide the festival’s direction – everything from talent to merchandise design to camping activities.

“Do you want to do yoga in the morning? Do you want us to organize a 5K? Do you want to do any offsite trips to beaches or to go on hikes or to go fishing?”

Feedback from the online surveys – and social media - will not only inform next year’s festival - but the Firefly festivals beyond that.

“If you’re a hip-hop fan, there’s a specific hip-hop survey," Pheil said. "If you’re an electronic music fan, you can speak to that. If you like rock music, there’s a rock survey.”

The surveys about potential acts will begin to close at the end of next week, as there are only a few spots in the lineup still available.

Pheil says more than 30,000 people contributed to an unofficial survey of bands and artists in 2013 – and they’re taking fan interaction to the next level this year.

The survey on the next big attraction on the grounds closes later in January.

But other surveys – for things like merchandise - will be available throughout the spring to ensure constant fan engagement.

While Pheil wouldn’t unveil any big secrets just yet - she did say there’s currently a close battle to determine next year’s big attraction. Options include a ping-pong bar, a round-the-world cocktail experience, a container bar or a dueling piano bar.
