Purzycki announces senior staff, department head appointees

Wilmington mayor-elect Mike Purzycki is filling out his senior staff as he gets set to take office next week.

Tanya Washington is his choice for Chief of Staff.  She was previously both Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff for former mayor Jim Baker during his 12 years in office.

Michael Donohue will be the city’s new Fire Chief.  He’s been deputy fire chief since January 2013.

Bobby Cummings will stay on as acting Police Chief while a nationwide search is conducted to take his place.

Purzycki is also keeping three Department heads from the Williams administration – leaving Economic Development Director Jeff Flynn, Public Works Commissioner Jeff Starkey and Human Resources Director Charlotte Barnes in place.

Purzycki has also tapped a former rival for the city’s top office to join his team.  Former City Councilman Kevin Kelley – who was one of  8 Democrats who ran for mayor – is Purzycki’s pick to run Wilmington’s Parks and Rec. department.

Purzycki will be sworn in as the city’s 56th mayor Tuesday night.
