Philadelphia based kids’ music band Alex & the Kaleidoscope play the World Cafe Live at the Queen Saturday as the club’s Peanut Butter and Jams concert series resumes in Wilmington.

Most educators say that one of the best ways to reach young children is to have fun, which is why music can be such an effective tool for teaching.

Alex & the Kaleidoscope have just released a new CD, “Get on Board,” based on songs from the band’s TV show.

Their leader Alex Mitnick says there are a lot of media choices for children but many of them are too similar.

“There’s a lot of amazing stuff, there’s amazing animation and there’s great music but there’s very little that kind of puts it all together with an authentic voice," said Mitnick. "You know, some of it seems like you’ve seen the same show over and over again in different formats that were almost developed in a test tube.”

Alex & the Kaleidoscope play the World Cafe Live at the Queen in Wilmington Saturday at 11 am.
