"Ride to the Tide" benefiting Special Olympics Delaware Sunday

Special Olympics Delaware
The 12th annual “Ride to the Tide” benefiting Special Olympics Delaware is this Sunday.";s:

One thousand motorcyclists will “Ride to the Tide” on Sunday.

The 55-mile ride is one of many Special Olympics Delaware fundraisers.

The motorcyclists and several hundred passengers will trek from Rommel Harley-Davidson in Smyrna to Jake’s Seafood House in Rehoboth Beach.

“Where they’ll be treated to lunch, compliments of Jakes," according to Jon Buzby, Director of Media Relations for Special Olympics Delaware. "It’s been a wonderful event that has evolved. We’re in the 12th year….nearly $300,000 has been raised. It’s the Delaware Chapter of the Blue Knights, Chapter 1, that has organized this event. And Delmarva Power has been a proud sponsor of the event, since its inception.”

He says “Ride to the Tide” is one of the most popular motorcycle rides in the First State, selling out over the past several years.

And Buzby says his organization appreciates the bikers passion for supporting the 4,200 athletes who compete year-round in Special Olympics here in Delaware.

“Well it obviously raises a lot of funds for the organization. 4,200 athletes compete in more than 60 sports events throughout the year. We’re the only state in the country that provides complete financial support for the uniforms to come to the competition, for the training equipment, and for any of the training facilities,” Buzby said.

State Police will escort the bikers on their ride south on Sunday.
