Rising gas prices in Delaware show no signs of letting up

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices made another leap last week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware jumped seven cents from $2.47 to $2.60.

Prices at the pump have been climbing for over a month. At the beginning of April, the state average was 33 cents less at $2.27 per gallon. But it’s still over a dollar less than what First State drivers were paying a year ago at $3.66.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.53 or slightly less  – several of them located in Dover.

Delaware drivers are paying two cents below the national average, which rose 9 cents to $2.62 since last week.

The rise in gas prices is due to the rising prices of crude oil, according to AAA officials. The national price has been increasing for 19 days in a row for a total of 23 cents per gallon, making this the largest seasonal price increase in three years.

Despite these increases, prices during April were the lowest for that month since 2009. AAA officials expect motorist will pay the lowest summer gas prices in 5 years.
