Rocco victorious in debut as UD stymies DSU in opener

New University of Delaware football coach Danny Rocco was a winner in his Blue Hen debut.

Defense carried Rocco and the Hens to a 22-3 victory over Delaware State Thursday night in Newark.

UD allowed the Hornets just 224 total yards in the contest, while recovering a pair of fumbles and scoring on a safety.

Diante Cherry rushed for one touchdown and caught a TD pass to lead the Blue Hen offense.

The win keeps the Blue Hens perfect against DSU.  UD is undefeated in 8 games against the Hornets all-time.

And a disappointing start to the 2017 football season for Wesley College.

The Wolverines, ranked 11th in Division III, fell at 20th ranked Delaware Valley 24-19.

Wesley outgained Del Val 384 yards to 242– but hurt its own cause with 3 turnovers, including a fumble returned 70 yards for a touchdown.

The Wolverines also committed 10 penalties for 84 yards.
