Rochester loans herself $225,000 in last minute campaign push

After coming in a distant third in terms of cash at the ready, Democratic congressional hopeful Lisa Blunt Rochester infused another $225,000 into her campaign shortly after the most recent finance reporting deadline.

It’s another significant loan from herself since she started her run to lock in the Democratic nomination for Delaware’s open – and only – U.S. House seat.

Rochester has now contributed nearly $405,000 to her own campaign, while she’s collected roughly $565,000 in donations since entering the race.

She made the loans in two separate transactions, filing the report the day after the final round of comprehensive campaign finance reports were made public.

With that new cash, Rochester now has a little more than $330,000 – slightly less money on hand than one of her opponents, Sean Barney.

Both her and Barney have been blanketing both the radio and television airwaves with ads in recent days, while state Sen. Bryan Townsend (D-Newark) has stuck to direct mail ads.

It appears to be a sprint to the finish, with Delaware’s primary set for September 13.
