Sen. Coons weighs in on FBI raid of former Trump campaign manager's home

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s junior senator is reacting to news the FBI raided one of the homes of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort last month.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating ties between members President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Sen. Chris Coons said the execution of a search warrant is a significant step forward in that Russia probe.

“I think it raises the possibility that Paul Manafort is going to face indictment," he said. "But, you know, it would be premature to guess exactly when or whether that next step is coming.”

Coons said he still wants to know more about the meeting Manafort and Donald Trump Junior took with a Russian lawyer last year.

Coons is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is conducting its own investigation. He’s also cosponsoring legislation that would protect special counsels, like Mueller, from being fired without cause.
