Senate President McBride holds up vote on UD trustee accused of sexual harassment

Delaware Public Media

State Senate President Pro Tem David McBride (D-Hawks Nest) said he needs clarity on sexual harassment allegations against UD Trustee Stuart Grant.

Grant was first appointed to the University of Delaware’s board of trustees in 2011. Gov. John Carney has re-appointed him to a second term.

McBride said he doesn’t know if the allegations are true. But he says he told Carney’s office that the nomination should be pulled back.

“I have communicated with the governor’s office that I don’t intend to go forward with the renomination until there’s more clarity on my part on what the issue is with Mr. Grant,” he said.

The allegations came up in a 2017 lawsuit Grant’s law firm filed against a former employee alleging a contract dispute involving a third party.

Grant, a Wilmington attorney, has raised money for Democratic candidates.

A spokeswoman with the University of Delaware said it doesn’t comment on unsubstantiated rumors.

The governor’s office didn’t respond to a request for comment.
