The Bard’s work will be seen in all three First State counties next month thanks to the Delaware Shakespeare Festival.
Pericles, Prince of Tyre, an adventure play about loss and redemption, is the festival’s first show to exhibit in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.
"This tour is specifically structured to serve nontraditional and underserved audiences that either can't afford to go see theater or don’t think it’s for them," said Producing Artistic Director David Stradley.
Performances will take place in community centers, homeless shelters and assisted living centers throughout the state.
?Pericles? is a story of about a prince who has it all and loses it multiple times, but is ultimately restored. Stradley said it was the perfect play to bring to these non-theatrical settings.
“One of the great things that theaters have discovered in taking Shakespeare into nontraditional audiences is that Shakespeare writes about people in extreme moments in their life.”
After playing almost exclusively in New Castle County, Stradley said the traveling show is a step towards becoming a statewide Shakespeare company.
Periclesstarts its run in November with nine free shows in Wilmington, New Castle, Dover and Georgetown.
