Delaware saw another spike in opiate overdoses this week. And six people are now dead.
Three deaths were reported hours apart on Monday in both Sussex and New Castle Counties.
Another death occurred on Sunday in New Castle and two happened on Wednesday -one was in Kent and another was in New Castle.
Paramedics and police also responded to a number of overdoses in New Castle County on Tuesday, but nobody died.
The total number of suspected overdose deaths in Delaware this year is now at 94. Last year, 308 people died from overdoses in the state, which was a 35 percent increase from the year before (228).
And these spikes in overdose deaths are becoming common.
In March, there were four overdose deaths in five hours in New Castle County. In April, two people overdosed in Sussex County over one weekend.
In response to the news, Gov. John Carney said in a statement “When people are ready for treatment, we need to have the resources and services ready for them.”
