Smyrna High wins Slam Dunk opener easily

The top boys’ high school hoop team in Delaware put on a show to kick-off the 2017 Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament in Lewes.

Top-ranked Smyrna hammered Howard 86-53 in the three-day tourney’s opening game this afternoon at Cape Henlopen High School.

The Eagles extended their win streak to 25 with the victory, and are now 7-0 to start this season.

Smyrna plays again at Slam Dunk tomorrow afternoon at 2, facing New Jersey’s Roselle Catholic High and Nazreon Reid.  Reid is considered one of the top 20 seniors in the nation and a possible top 10 NBA draft pick in 2019.

Another top 10 Delaware team did not fare as well. 6th ranked Caravel was trounced by Maryland’s St. James School 74-36.  The Bucs fall to 2-2. They'll play again at Slam Dunk Friday night against tourney host, Cape Henlopen.

Cape, ranked 4th in the First State, faces California's Harvard Westlake Thursday night at 7.
