Solar company opens second First State site in Newark

Solar City, the top solar energy provider in the US, has opened its second Delaware operation in the city of Newark.

Gov. Jack Markell praised the company for delivering jobs and green energy.

"We want to see that continued growth. You talk about something that’s good for the economy. It’s good for the environment," he said.

The governor’s goal of making 25% of Delaware energy renewable has made the state more attractive to alternative energy companies, says Company founder Lee Keshishian.

"Delaware has been, first and foremost, one of the most progressive states for solar. Over the last seven or eight years," he said.

Solar City works by installing solar panels for free on top of homes. Homeowners pay Solar City for the energy they use, which is typically less expensive than the the cost of a traditional utilities bill.

The company has created fifty new jobs so far at its Newark Center.
