State GOP elects new party leaders

First State Republicans have a nearly complete makeover at the top of their party leadership.

Michael Harrington, a former state representative and Dover real estate agent, will lead the state party for the next year.

He takes over as chairman for Charlie Copeland, who’s stepping down after nearly four years in the role.

The most contentious race from Saturday’s GOP convention was a last minute contest for vice chair.

State Sen. Colin Bonini (R-Dover South) nominated his former campaign manager, Emily Taylor, from the floor.

Taylor beat out former U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Wade 149-102.

Dennis Cini will serve as the party’s new treasurer, while Carol Bodine stays on as secretary – the only holdover from the past few years.

Democrats will elect their new leadership in June.
