State Police Citizens Police Academy begins next month

Delaware Public Media

The Delaware State Police is currently accepting applications for its Spring 2018 Citizens Police Academy.

The DSP Citizens Police academy begins Thursday, March 22, according to Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

“The Citizens Police Academy basically gives citizens the opportunity to see how the Delaware State Police operates on a daily basis. We also incorporate a lot of our special units that will give the public an awareness of what our special units entail; such things as our Canine Unit, our Bomb Unit and our Mounted Patrol Unit,” Jaffe said.

Corporal Jaffe says the academy consists of eight, Thursday night sessions, running from 6 until 8 p.m. She says most of the classes will take place at Delaware State Police Troop 3 in Camden.

If you want to sign up for the Citizens Police Academy, you have to go online to dsp.delaware.gov and fill out an application. The deadline to register is March 2.

Jaffe says the class will be limited to the first 20 people who sign up and pass a background check.
