State Rep. Harvey Kenton to retire

Delaware Public Media

State Rep. Harvey Kenton (R-Milford) says he’s not seeking another term.

Kenton was first elected to represent the 36th House District in 2010. He’s sat on the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee for the past six years.

In a statement, Kenton, who’s turns 77 this year,  says he’s been honored to work on the behalf of his constituents, but it’s time to pursue other interests.

Kenton is the latest to join the growing ranks of lawmakers retiring at the end of the current session.

That list includes Senate Majority Leader Margaret Rose Henry, Senate Minority Leader Gary Simpson and State Senator Brian Bushweller, - along with State Rep.  Melanie George Smith - co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee.

The News Journal reports Kenton is endorsing Milford mayor Bryan Shupe to replace him.
