Suspect in Maryland office park and Wilmington shootings arrested

Wilmington Police Dept.

The man wanted in connection with Wednesday morning shootings at a Maryland office park and Wilmington used car lot is in custody.

Wilmington Police say 37 year-old Radee Prince was arrested by federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agents Wednesday night near Four Seasons Parkway in Glasgow following a day-long manhunt.Police believe Prince is responsible for the shooting at an Edgewood, Maryland office park that left three dead and two injured, then shooting and wounding a man at 28th Street Auto Sales and Service in Northeast Wilmington.

Prince was arraigned in Delaware Thursday morning on charges of attempted first degree murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. Bail was set at $2.1 million cash.

Wilmington Police Chief Robert Tracy says a tip led law enforcement to Prince’s vehicle, a black GMC Acadia SUV with Delaware plates, near Glasgow High School around 5:30 p.m. Just over an hour later, Prince was found nearby on foot. After a brief chase, he was captured shortly after 7 p.m.  Tracy says Prince attempted to  toss a gun away during that brief chase.

"I'm very happy the way this ended because, we're talking about a person that's capable of shooting six people, three of whom are dead right now, who actually still had a gun on him when the officers confronted him to make an arrest" said Tracy. "We're very lucky it came to the conclusion it did."

Earlier Wednesday, Tracy called the two incidents “targeted shootings” – saying the suspect and victims knew each other, but added the motives for the shootings remain unclear.

He also said Prince has 42 previous arrests in Delaware and 15 felony convictions.

Once the tip led police to Prince's vehicle in the Glasgow area, Tracy says they were able to react quickly and ensure area residents were safe as they closed in on Prince.

"We believe we got in front of that immediately when we got the information.  I don't think anyone was at risk," said Tracy.  "With a person like that, we wanted to make sure we were over there.  All of our resources were drawn down to that  area.  We stayed at home in some of the areas we were looking at, other locations, but we had to make sure we followed through with this tip and make sure we keep everyone safe."

The shootings and subsequent search for the gunman prompted a number of school districts to place their buildings on modified lockdown during the day Wednesday and cancel afterschool and evening events and activities.
