Sussex Co. Council says 'ok' to 2017 budget plan

Sussex County’s 2017 budget is officially in place.

Sussex County Council Tuesday unanimously approved a $119 million dollar spending plan for the coming year.

Under the budget, the county’s property tax rate remains the same and there are no fee increases, including for sewer service. County officials say the average tax bill for a single-family home will stay at about $110  annually.

General fund spending in the budget is up $1.5 million or 2.8 percent – mainly to cover five new public safety positions.  But the overall budget is down 3.1 percent or $3.8 million from the current year.  That’s largely due to a drop sewer construction in the coming year.

And there good news for county employees. They’ll receive a one percent cost of living raise and their health benefits remain intact.
