Teen killed in shoot-out with State trooper

Delaware State Police

A 16-year-old teen was shot and killed in Dover early Saturday morning by a Delaware State Trooper.

According to State Police, the shooting happened shortly after 3am when the trooper approached a stopped vehicle on Fieldstone Court near Kenton Road in Dover.

State Police say as the trooper approached the vehicle, a passenger in the front-seat displayed a weapon and an exchange of gunfire ensued.

During that exchange, the 16-year-old male was shot.  He later died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

The 18-year-old male driver was shot in the leg.  He was treated and released.

A 15-year-old in the back seat was not injured.

The trooper was also not hurt.

The Delaware State Police Homicide unit continues to investigate the shooting.
