Tropical Storm Watch out for Delmarva coast as Jose lurks offshore

National Hurricane Center
Hurrican Jose is expected to pass just 190 miles off the coast of delmarva as the storms heads north, northeast Monday & Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the coastal areas along the Atlantic and parts of Sussex County until late Tuesday night.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Lance Franck says the watch is tied to Hurricane Jose, which continues to churn in the Atlantic.

Franck says it’s unlikely at this time Jose will turn west and come on shore, but it may still be felt here.

The important thing, especially with the storm moving towards the north and the storms’ windfield becoming a bit larger, is that the impact can be felt far away from the storms. So even with the current track, taking it a couple hundred miles offshore, we are still going to see some of those impacts." said Franck

Franck notes Jose's 90 mile-per-hour winds that could cause flooding issues locally.

"Our biggest concern really is the potential for elevated water levels along the coast and that could translate into some coastal flooding," said Franck.

Franck adds that minor to moderate coastal flooding will more than likely continue Monday through Wednesday morning’s high tide.

Jose is is expected to turn toward the north-northeast Tuesday.  If Jose stays on that track, the center of the storm is forecast to pass well east of the Delmarva peninsula Monday and Tuesday and pass well to the east of the Jersey coast on Wednesday.
