Turnover continues at Delaware prisons

Delaware Public Media

Delaware prisons will have two new top officials as the fallout from a deadly hostage crisis earlier this year continues.

Christopher Klein left his job as the chief of the Bureau of Prisons to take a new job with the state Homeland Security department, according to the Associated Press.

Steven Wesley, the current warden at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington, will replace Klein.

Dana Metzger will now serve as the warden at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna where the inmate riot killed correctional officer Steven Floyd in February.

Metzger is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force and currently oversees Dover Air Force Base’s security forces.

He takes over for David Pierce, who was “reassigned” following the hostage standoff, though state officials won’t say why.
