The Delaware Division of Public Health is reporting the first confirmed cases of influenza in a child this season.
One is a male from Sussex county, the other is a female from New Castle County—both are under the age of four.
The total number of confirmed flu cases in the state so far this year is fourteen. That number is from two weeks ago, but DPH officials say eight more cases may soon be confirmed bringing the total to twenty-two for the season.
The Department of Health urges Delawareans six months of age or older to get their flu vaccine, if they have not yet done so. And the sooner the better, because it takes about two weeks after the shot for antibodies to develop in the body.
Proper hygiene can also help prevent the spread of the flu.
Last flu season, Delaware had almost 4,590 confirmed cases, fifteen were fatal.
