The University of Delaware baseball team is in Lubbock, Texas, ready for its first NCAA Division I tournament appearance in 16 years.
The Blue Hens face Texas Tech Friday afternoon at 3:00 in their opening contest in the NCAA regional round.
It’s UD’s 17th trip to the NCAA tourney, but first since 2001.
And they face a formidable first test.
Texas Tech is 43-15 and ranked as high as third in the nation.
The Red Raiders are also playing on their home field as the host of the Lubbock regional.
The Hens enter the tourney with a 34-21 record and are playing their best baseball of the year – with wins in 10 of their last 11 games.
A win would send UD on to face the winner of Friday’s other Lubbock regional contest between Arizona and Sam Houston State.
A loss drops them into an elimination game against the loser of the Arizona/Sam Houston State contest.
