UD field hockey begins its NCAA tourney run

The University of Delaware field hockey team returns to NCAA Tournament Saturday.

The Blue Hens, ranked 8th nationally,  face #9 Louisville in a first round contest at Duke.

It’s UD’s fourth straight trip to the Division I national playoffs.

The 19-2 Blue Hens carry a school record 15-game streak into Saturday afternoon’s 2 pm contest.

The Hens have some history with Louisville.  They’re 2-1 against the Cardinals, scoring wins in 2002 and 2004, but losing to them in 2009.

Louisville is 15-5 this season.

The winner of the UD-Louisville game will face the survivor of match-up between top-seeded Duke and American University in Saturday’s other first round game at Duke.

Last year, Delaware was ousted in the NCAA tourney’s opening round, losing to Virginia 4-3 in overtime.
