Wesley College ousted from NCAA Div. III football tourney

For a second straight season, Wesley College’s football season ends in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Wolverines, ranked 13th in the nation, fell at number 10 Brockport 49-28 Saturday.

The game was knotted at 21 at halftime, but Wesley was undone by 5 second half turnovers.  Two in the third quarter,  an interception and a fumble, were returned for touchdowns as Brockport scored 21 unanswered points to take control.

Brockport’s defense, ranked number one in Division III against the run,  also bottled up Wesley’s E.J. Lee – holding him to 82 yards. It’s the first time all season Lee failed to top 100 rushing yards.

The Wolverines finish the season at 10-2 , and the two teams they lost to this year – Brockport and Delaware Valley – will meet in the NCAA Quarterfinals next week.
