Wilmington police officers participate in Homicide Investigations Training workshop

Delaware Public Media

Wilmington Police officers participated in a Homicide Investigations Training workshop Wednesday.

The training is part of the implementation of the Wilmington Police Department’s Public Safety Plan, and efforts through the Department of Justice’s Violence Reduction Network.

It was geared toward commanders, supervisors, detectives and members from investigative and forensic units to help increase knowledge and improve communication and collaboration in response to homicide investigations.

The training comes about a year and a half after Mayor Dennis Williams created the city’s first dedicated homicide unit - after initially resisting such a move.

Wilmington Police say with that unit in place, the city’s homicide case clearance rate increased to nearly 50 percent in 2015– up from 10 percent previously.
