Wilmington Univ. falls in opener at Div. II College World Series

A disappointing start to the Wilmington University’s baseball team first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series.

The Wildcats were edged by Catawba  3-2 Saturday in their opening contest at the eight-team, double elimination national championship tournament.

Wilmington gave up two first inning runs and was unable to recover –limited just two hits by five Catawba pitchers.

The loss drops the 37-14 Willdcats into the losers bracket.  They need a win Monday over Angelo State to stay alive.

Angelo State was shut out 4-o by Henderson State in its opening contest Saturday.
