Wilmington Univ. makes Div. II College World Series debut

Wilmington University’s baseball team makes its first appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series this weekend.

The Wildcats open the eight-team, double elimination national championship tournament Saturday when they face Catawba at 3pm.

Wilmington earned its first trip to the finals last weekend by winning the East Region title with an 11-9 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. The Wildcats rallied form 5 runs down in the first inning to win claim a spot in the DII World Series.

Wilmington is 37-13 this season. Catawba is 44-13 and back in the World Series for the first time since 2012 when it finished fourth.

Wilmington did make four NAIA World Series appearances before joining the N-C-A-A at the Division II level in 2004.
