WRC expands public mural program

Terrance Vann's mural "The Divine Mind" is the first outside the Creative District neighborhood.

What started with three planned murals in Wilmington’s Creative District has blossomed into seven public works throughout the city.

The first of these expanded murals sponsored by the Wilmington Renaissance Corporation is under construction at 7th and Windsor streets.

It's entitled The Divine Mind by local artist Terrance Vann.

"And now he’s back in his studio kind of finishing things up and hopefully will be installing the mural toward the end of September," WRC Managing Director Carrie Gray said.

Nearly $70,000 in state funding has helped move the public art program into new neighborhoods.

“A small group of us are working on scouting walls in other neighborhoods in the city. And that basically means we’re looking for sidewalls of buildings that are in good condition and are highly visible to the public,” Gray said.

Locations for the next three expanded murals will be announced later in the year.
