State lawmakers will soon have a handful of plans to choose from if they decide to make over Delaware’s personal income tax brackets.

Local governments, state employees and seniors will share in the burden of making up for projected falling revenues under outgoing Gov. Jack Markell’s (D) final budget proposal.

Two bills seeking to hike Delaware’s personal income tax on wealthier residents passed out of a House committee Wednesday.

New brackets would be added at the $125,000 and $250,000 levels. Right now, the highest tax bracket is on those making more than $60,000.

In an effort to boost stagnating revenues, some state lawmakers are trying to add new taxes for high-income earners in Delaware.

The new legislation being shopped around for support by Rep. John Kowalko (D-Newark South) would add two new brackets to Delaware’s personal income tax structure.
