Students in Delaware are performing better on Advanced Placement exams.
The College Board’s latest report shows about 19 percent of public school students in the state scored a 3 or better on their AP exam in 2016, which is a one percentage point improvement over 2015.
The state has also seen a nearly 5 percent increase in AP performance over the past decade.
But, despite the improvements, Delaware still sits below the national average of 22 percent, and ranks 23rd among all states.
Nearby Maryland has the nation’s second-best AP scores, with 30 percent of students scoring 3 or better on the exam.
Nationally, more students are taking AP tests every year and scores are on a continual upward trend.
The number of low-income students taking the test is also on an upward trend. It’s risen by more than 1,000 percent over the past 20 years, driven mostly by an increase in federal funding.
