Attorney General warns of lead generator scams

Delaware Public Media

The Delaware Department of Justice wants people to watch out for bogus online lead generators and list services.

Attorney General Matt Denn’s office issued a warning for real estate professionals to be on the lookout for fake services that claim to provide advanced business leads of potential customers.

In a release, Denn’s office said it’s investigated complaints about the bogus online lead providers that give little return in exchange for large up-front payments.

The Department of Justice cautions consumers to do their research before paying anyone for any such services.

The office advises checking for complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and searching for the company’s registration with either the Secretary of State offices or the Division of Corporations before signing any contract.

The Department of Justice encourages anyone who suspects they’ve been scammed to contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Hotline at 1-800-220-5424.
