Bike ride links riverside towns

Both recreational and competitive cyclists are set to saddle up and ride the 10 miles between Delaware City and New Castle for the River Towns Ride and Festival.

Cindy Snyder with the New Castle Courthouse Museum said the annual event is a way to celebrate the history of the two towns.

"Part of this is a way to celebrate both cities and all they have to offer," Snyder said.

There are two rides attached the event, a competitive race that draws riders from throughout the region and a more family friendly recreational ride.

Snyder said there will a be a shuttle ferrying people between the two towns during the family ride so cyclists of all skill levels can participate.

"And if you’re riding your bike and you get tired... all you’ve got to do is get off and the shuttle will pick you up and you’re bike too," Snyder said.

Festivals will be held in both towns Saturday October 1, one at The Green in New Castle and one in Battery Park in Delaware City.
