DART riders now have real-time bus info at their fingertips

DART has a new way to help you make sure you catch the bus.

The Delaware Transit Corporation unveiled additions to DelDOT’s mobile real-time app Tuesday that can help you stay on top of where your bus is and when it will arrive.

They allow users to select a DART bus stop and receive real-time arrival times or view live updates on where the bus is along its designated route.

Delaware Transit Corporation Marketing and Public Affairs officer Julie Theyerl  says you can also find a bus if you need one.

“The cool thing is there’s a location feature," said Theyerl. "So, you can hit that if you have your location services on and it will tell you exactly where you are so you can pick which stops are close to you depending on where you want to go.”

The tools were developed by DelDOT staff using data collected by DART’s existing statewide transit dispatch operational system.

“It has been in the works for a couple of years.  Our information center specialists have been using it to help inform customers," said Theyerl  "Now, customers can do it for themselves. ”

Theyerl adds the new tools work in conjunction with the new DART Operations Control Center that opened earlier this year.

“With our Operations Center we added 11 staff members that are watching the system.  They’re looking at it real time.  So, if there’s an accident or some unforeseen traffic condition, they can work to get things rerouted, rescheduled for Paratransit customers – all sorts of things – right on the fly,” said Theyerl.

The additions to the DelDOT app went live Tuesday.  That app is free and available at the Google Play and Apple App stores.  They can also be used at DelDOT’s website (www.deldot.gov) as part of its interactive map.
