DART’s 20th annual “Stuff the Bus” Thanksgiving Food Drive celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

Delaware Transit Corporation marketing and public affairs officer Julie Theyerl says her agency is ecstatic with how much food was collected from November 6 through 11.

“It was just an incredible outpouring of generosity this year. We collected 17.9 tons of food,” said Theyerl.

The week-long food drive took place at Walmart in Milford, Acme in Dover, Acme in the Fairfax Shopping Center in Rodney Square in Wilmington and Acme in Newark.

Theyerl says they also added Acme in Rehoboth and Middletown this year.

This year’s donations from the general public filled two, 30-foot buses full of non-perishable food.

The Food Bank of Delaware will distribute the donated food through its Hunger Relief Partners to Delaware residents in need of food assistance.
