The Delaware Democratic Party has a new executive director, effective Aug. 1.

Jesse Chadderdon, the former communications director for the Delaware State Senate, was named the party’s new executive director.

“This is about winning elections. And so it’s about making sure that we’re organized, that we’re operating as a finely-tuned machine, that we’re able to identify candidates, that we’re able to identify volunteers, that we’re able to identify donors,” Chadderdon said.

He said one of his goals is embracing the many different things Delaware democrats stand for.

“We need to make sure that we’re representing what the Sussex democratic committee wants, just as much as we’re representing what the City of Wilmington Democratic Committee wants,” Chadderdon said.

Chadderton comes from a journalism background. He then served as press secretary for U.S. Senator Chris Coons' 2014 re-election campaign. He worked closely with Democratic Chairman Erik Raser-Schramm on February's special election of Sen. Stephanie Hansen (D).

"We were able to hold the majority here in Delaware in the senate," Chadderdon said. "That was critical, in terms of moving our state forward this cycle, but I think heading into 2018 with a lot of things happening at the national level, that there is going to be a real focus here on what we can do as a state and as a state party on pushing back against that."

In his new role, Chadderdon said he plans to travel the state meeting with districts to understand what they want from the party.

He’ll also work with Raser-Schramm to help candidates file campaign finance paperwork, ramp up campaigns and volunteer canvasses and push for individual issues confronting the general assembly.

Chadderdon said it all goes into making sure the party is functioning well at the state level.

Travis Williams, who served as interim executive director has been named deputy director of the party.

“I think going forward we’ve got a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I think the team that we have coming in soon is well-suited to achieve what we need to achieve,” Williams said.
