Delaware jobless rate ticks up again for February

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate inched up to 4.5 percent in February.

That’s the highest the First State’s jobless rate has been over the past year, but is still below the national rate of 4.7 percent.

Employment in nonfarm sectors has gained about 4,200 jobs since last February, but America as a whole is seeing steadier overall job growth of 1.7 percent.

Professional and business service jobs have tanked over the past 12 months, shedding 2,000 jobs.

That’s been buoyed by strong gains in the education, health and hospitality sectors.

Cities and counties saw small upticks in their non seasonally adjusted rates.

New Castle County as a whole stands at 4.6 percent. Dover inched up to 6.2 percent, while Sussex County stayed even at 5.7 percent.
