DNREC: Delmar business violated scrap tire laws

DNREC

A Delmar recycling business has been ordered to stop transporting and accepting scrap tires for 30 days.
Secretary Shawn Garvin from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control issued the order to Anderson’s Recycling, Inc. at 9320 Old Racetrack Rd. after it didn’t receive any permit application from the business.

According to officials, Anderson’s was supposed to send a permit application to the Department of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Section by April 19 this year, when all scrap tire businesses in the First State became subject to full regulation by the department. The state says it found the business transported, accepted and stored scrap tires without the appropriate permits.

The waste management department also tried to visit the scrap tire facility site, but could not access the site. Officials say the company did not return phone calls.

Anderson’s has 20 days to appeal the secretary’s order.

Delaware Public Media reached out to Anderson’s for comment, but couldn’t get through to a phone number found online.
