The Delaware State University campus is open again after being on lockdown for about 2 hours this morning.
The lockdown was prompted shortly before 10 o'clock Tuesday morning after some students reported receiving anonymous texts about a potential shooter on the Dover campus.
About an hour later, DSU’s public information officer Carlos Holmes said in an emailed statement that “there was no active shooter on campus,” adding law DSU Police decided to take the precaution of locking down the campus to conduct a thorough search of all buildings along with Delaware State Police, Dover Police and Capitol Police.
Law enforcement gave the all clear at about 11:45 a.m.
"While this alert unquestionably led to significant anxiety and alarm among our students and employees, I am pleased to report that our protocols functioned well. Administrators, faculty, and staff moved quickly and professionally to locate students in safe areas of campus buildings and kept them there until released," said Tony Allen, Executive Vice President and Provost. "Again, I want to emphasize that there was no active shooter on campus, our protocols func-tioned as intended, and police units responded immediately."
While the lockdown has been lifted, all classes and events for the remainder of the day at DSU's Dover campus have been canceled. The lockdown also force cancellation of DSU's Convocation scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
