DSU gets boost from Pres. Trump

Delaware Public Media

Delaware State University and the country’s other Historically Black Colleges and Universities now have a more direct connection to the White House.

President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday moving an initiative to assistHBCU’s from the U.S. Dept. of Education to the White House.

DSU President Harry Williams stood behind Trump as he signed the order in the Oval Office.

“Today I’m very excited to be signing an executive order to recognize the importance of Historic Black Colleges and Universities. Very important,” Trump said.

Trump called HBCU’s an “absolute priority” of the White House.

But HBCU leaders are pressing the president to follow through on his commitment by nearly doubling federal funding for the schools.

The leaders were invited to the White House this week for a listening session with the president.
