Fish and Wildlife seek public comment on Sunday deer hunting

Deer hunters in Delaware will be able to go out on Sundays for the first time later this year. The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife is first seeking public comment on where they’ll be permitted to hunt.

Sunday deer hunting will be allowed on both public and private land starting this fall.

Rob Hossler, with the Division of Fish and Wildlife, said Sunday hunting on private land will be allowed at the discretion of landowners.

Fish and Wildlife wants to hear from the public before opening up hunting in specific state wildlife areas.

The advent of Sunday hunting has made hikers, birders and others uneasy. Hessler said the public will be able to commentin person, by mail or online.

“So that we can get feedback on what areas users would like to have open and those that (they) wouldn’t,” Hessler said.

The Sunday deer hunting dates are October 9, November 13 and December 20 of this year and January 15 of 2017.

Fish and Wildlife should decide on which wildlife areas will be designated for Sunday hunting by late September.
